St. John`s Catholic School ~ End of an Era
In the fall of 2013, St. John's Catholic School will be merging with Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in Minnetonka. The name of this new regional school is Notre Dame Academy.

To help us celebrate the many wonderful years that St. John's provided a valuable Catholic education to many young people, we would like to invite you to the "End of an Era" celebration. This event will be held on Thursday, May 30 5:30-7:30 pm.

Food will be served starting at 5:30 followed by a blessing from Fr. Liekhus at 6:30. Hot dogs and chips will be provided for the BBQ. We are asking families to bring the following: Last Name A-H salads, I-P canned soda and Q-Z desserts.

An RSVP is not required to attend, but to help the Home and School Association get a count as to how many to expect, please click on the End of Era tab at the left and find the link to the End of Era RSVP Form to download an RSVP form. You may also email your family's RSVP to:

At this event a commemorative book will be distributed that will be filled with several fond memories of St. John's. If you have a special memory that you would like to share, please use the form specified for the book. Please return the form to either the school or church office by May 10th.

To download the invitation and formatted book page please click on the End of an Era tab in the left margin of this webpage. You will then be directed to the two links and can download both items. Thank you. We hope to see you there!

Read-a-Thon 2013
Read-a-Thon 2013

St. John's students recently kicked off the 2013 Read-a-Thon. Each student set a personal goal of either a certain amount of minutes or a certain amount of books read throughout the event.

This year there are a few different activities to promote literature. A coloring contest is being held for students in grades K-3 and a writing contest based on the topic "My Favorite Book & Why" is being held for students in grades 4-6. If students decide to participate in these contests all entries are due on April 3. There will also be a Book Review event held on April 10. This is another chance for students to share their favorite pieces of literature with other students. If your child decides to participate in the Book Review he/she will receive a non-uniform pass and an extra recess time to be used on April 12. The third event that will take place on April 15 is a program called "Kids Who Read Are COOL!" put on by local performer, Brian Richards.

This year's Read-a-Thon will take place from March 20-April 22. All collections are due on April 26th! Please use your child's Read-a-Thon collection folder when turning in any collections. Thank you in advance for your support of reading!

We hope you are planning to join us at the St. John's "End of an Era" Party on May 30th. Please see the link above for more information.

Character Counts
Character Counts

St. John's implements the Character Counts curriculum. Character Counts is a framework centered on basic values called the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. This year at St. John's we will also be adding six virtues and parables from our Catholic faith. These virtues and parables correlate with the six pillars. They are the virtues of respect, charity, gentleness, humility, perseverance, honesty, patience, mercy, kindness, stewardship and service.

Both staff and students are on the look out for anyone going above and beyond ... being a good Christian character and follower of Jesus Christ.

Our goal with this program is to build the students into model citizens and to follow and live out the ways of Jesus in everything we do, think and say.

WELLNESS CORNER
WELLNESS CORNER

The St. John's Wellness Team is suggesting the following items to be appropriate daily snacks. They are things such as crackers, mini carrots, bananas, cheese, grapes, dry cereal & trail mix. Foods to avoid sending for daily snack would be items such as chips, candy, cookies, cakes/cupcakes & ice-cream. Please avoid sending cakes/cupcakes, candy and chips for birthday treats.

We want to thank you for your continued support of making our students' lives healthy in the areas of eating habits, physical activity and their overall nutrition education.
